Optical Assistant - Edinburgh

An Optical Assistant supports both the clinical and retail sides of an optician's practice. Their work ensures smooth patient experiences from first contact through to eyeglass fitting and aftercare.

Welcoming and assisting patients — greeting visitors, answering questions, and delivering excellent customer service.
Pre-screening support — carrying out preliminary measurements and screening tests to support optometrists and dispensing opticians.
Spectacle fitting & dispensing — helping customers choose frames and lenses, adjusting glasses, and ensuring comfort and visual accuracy.
Advice & product knowledge — explaining lens options, coatings, NHS entitlements, promotions, and aftercare guidance.
Administration — booking appointments, maintaining patient records, processing payments, and responding to phone and email enquiries.
Strong customer service skills — confident in communicating with a wide range of patients.
Attention to detail — essential for accurate measurements and adjustments.
Teamwork — working collaboratively with optometrists, dispensing opticians, and colleagues.
Optical experience — previous experience as an optical assistant required
