Operations Support and Development Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Dispensing Optician to join our successful independent Optical and Hearing Care group as an Operations Support and Development Officer.

Based at our client's Durham Head Office, this is a varied and rewarding role offering the opportunity to work closely with their Operations Manager and senior leadership team, supporting the continued success and development of our network of practices.

This position is ideal for a qualified Dispensing Optician who is looking to move beyond practice-based dispensing into a broader operational role. You'll combine your clinical knowledge with your organisational skills, helping to improve practice performance, support colleagues, review optical prescriptions and contribute to business development initiatives.

As our Operations Support and Development Officer, you will work closely with the Operations Manager and wider management team to provide operational support across our network of practices.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of operational activities across the business.

  • Reviewing and assessing optical prescriptions, providing professional advice and guidance to practice teams.

  • Monitoring operational performance and producing reports to support business planning and continuous improvement.

  • Supporting the implementation of new processes and initiatives to improve efficiency and patient experience.

  • Coaching and mentoring practice colleagues, helping to develop skills, confidence and best practice.

  • Assisting with staff inductions, training programmes and ongoing professional development.

  • Carrying out occasional visits to practices to provide operational support, guidance and coaching.

  • Helping to ensure all practices operate in line with company procedures, GOC standards and industry regulations.

  • Building positive working relationships with colleagues across all departments and practice locations.

  • Supporting business projects and contributing to the continued growth and success of the organisation.

  • Providing regular updates and reports to the senior management team on operational activities and development projects.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Dispensing Optician with current GOC registration.

  • Previous experience working within an optical practice environment.

  • Strong understanding of optical dispensing and the ability to confidently review prescriptions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Well organised with excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • Confident using Microsoft Office and practice management systems.

  • A proactive, positive and solution-focused approach.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively, as part of a wider management team.
