Optical Assistant Mobile - Birmingham

The role involves travelling throughout the West Midlands region, which is well-connected via major motorways such as the M5, M6, M42, and M54, making it convenient to reach patients across urban and rural areas. You will be expected to plan your travel efficiently, often using a company vehicle.

The West Midlands is a diverse area, combining busy city centres, suburban communities, and rural locations. It’s an ideal location for drivers as it has a well-developed road network, including access to key motorway routes and local roads. Flexibility and confidence in driving are essential, as you will be visiting patients in a variety of settings.

We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and organised Mobile Optical Assistant to join our domiciliary optical team. In this role, you will visit patients in their own homes, supporting a qualified Optometrist during eye examinations and optical care appointments.

This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who enjoys travel, patient care, and working outside a traditional practice setting. You will be fully supported by Head Office, with guidance on scheduling, equipment, and patient management.

  • Assist the Optometrist during eye exams in patients’ homes

  • Prepare, transport, and set up optical equipment safely

  • Help patients with frame selection, measurements, and dispensing

  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation

  • Provide friendly, professional, and compassionate care

  • Keep mobile equipment and vehicles clean, safe, and organised

  • Follow all health and safety procedures when travelling and visiting patients

  • Work alongside an experienced Optometrist during visits

  • Full support from Head Office, including patient scheduling and logistics

  • Guidance on efficient travel routes and safety on the road

  • Full UK driving licence, held for at least 1 year – essential

  • Confident driving across urban and rural areas of the West Midlands

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Compassionate and professional approach when interacting with patients

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a mobile team

  • Previous optical or healthcare experience is desirable but not essential
